At Namesake, we design furniture for families — and that means establishing processes and systems that ensure only the safest items reach you and yours. We work closely in partnership with each of our factories to ensure every item is manufactured up to the highest quality standards, allowing us the privilege to say we’ve been helping both babies and parents get a better night’s sleep for decades.
Our cribs, dressers, and changers are made from New Zealand Pine Wood, one of the most sustainable and renewable wood resources available. In fact, New Zealand Pine Wood forests are expanding, increasing the total production annually. Additionally, some of the panels in our products use CARB II compliant MDF and 100% wood veneers.
Our products are finished in a non-toxic multi-step staining and painting process. The paint used for all of our products is formaldehyde and lead-safe with undetectable levels of formaldehyde in all of our furniture. All of our paint has less than 2 ppm of toxic materials — far exceeding the requirement of less than 300 ppm. For further reassurance, we perform voluntary annual paint tests in order to maintain consistent quality, exceeding U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations. In addition, Namesake products have low VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
All of our products are sent to a third party CPSC-certified lab for testing to ensure compliance with ASTM standards. After third party testing, 25% of our full-size crib models are tested quarterly to ensure adherence to all guidelines.
We perform annual paint tests to maintain consistent quality, exceeding U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commissions regulations. We have also created our own rigorous quality control program to stay ahead of industry standards. A quality control team at our production site individually checks and hand packs each piece to ensure the highest quality of craftsmanship before products leave our factory doors. Items are inspected and assembled again by another team upon arrival in the U.S.
The GREENGUARD® Gold seal certifies that our furniture has been independently tested and verified to meet rigorous safety standards for chemical emissions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as formaldehyde and phthalates.
GREENGUARD® Gold offers some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of VOCs into indoor air, which can be a major source of indoor air pollution and may contribute to health problems such as asthma and allergies. Products carrying the seal have been tested for over 10,000 chemicals and more than 360 VOCs, and certified as low-emitting by this trusted independent third party.

As required, slats are a maximum of 2 ⅜’’ apart, each withstanding at least 135 pounds of pressure, exceeding the required minimum of 80 pounds.
After third party testing, 25% of our full-size crib models are tested quarterly to ensure adherence to all guidelines.

Certifications And Standards
ASTM F2388, ASTM F2057
In 2023, CPSC passed a new regulation requiring all dressers, chests, armoires and chifforobes to be tested to stricter standards for stability and to reduce risk of tip-overs.
This new standard applies to all dressers manufactured on 9/1/23 and onward. While dressers manufactured prior to this date have not been tested to the new standard, they are still safe and, as always, we recommend installing the included anti-tip kit to ensure added stability. We are proud to have always exceeded voluntary and mandatory regulations with our own internal testing standards
The chart below the FAQs shows our current approach in testing all dressers and storage units, and how our testing measures against the new regulation.
